Our Adoption Timeline:



November 2008 - We chose our adoption agencies! We're using Villa Hope for our international agency and American Adoptions for our home study.

December 2008- Formal applications were sent out and the home study process begins.

January 17, 2009 - First home study visit completed.February 3, 2009 - Second home study visit completed.April 4, 2009- Wrapping up our home study and working on our dossier!
The dossier is another collection of papers that gives even more detailed information about the adoptive family. Each page has to be legalized by a notary, the Secretary of State, and the consulate of Peru. This is what our "hague" dossier consisted of:
  • Birth certificates for each family member
  • Marriage certificate
  • Deed to home
  • Local Police background checks
  • Updated driver's license
  • Psychological examination for both parents
  • Updated physical exam & blood work
  • Updated employment verification
  • Proof of profession
  • Approved home study
  • Immigration approval
  • Updated passports
  • Updated FBI clearances (had to have 3 of these done)
  • Name and Notory Affadavits
  • Photos of home and family
  • Agency contract forms.
  • Letter of request to SNA
6/29/09 We received our U.S. Immigration Approval! Almost finished with our paper work!


7/6/09 Drove two hours to have all of our documents sealed by the MO Secretary of State. All of our documents passed!

7/8/09 Sent off our "dossier" to the Consulate of Peru in Chicago, IL.

7/15/09 Received our documents back from the Peruvian Consulate and they all passed. Off in the mail they go again to Birmingham, Alabama where they will be assembled by our international agency and sent to Peru.



7/20/09 Dossier sent to Peru today!

7/22/09 Dossier was delivered to our lawyer in Peru and will begin the translation process.

10/27/09 Received the news that we will need to present more information to Peru before they will approve us to go on the waiting list for a child.

11/16/09 Finished gathering our updated info and sent it to the Secretary of State and the consulate of Peru where it will be legalized and then sent to our adoption agency once again.

11/19/09 Updated information sent to Peru.

1/1/09 HAPPY NEW YEAR! We found out today that Peru has approved our adoption and we are officially on the waiting list! Now we just wait for a phone call with the referral of our child.

6/20/10 Completed another homestudy update.


7/1/10  Referral Day!!!! We received our referral of a 10 month old little girl from Puno, Peru


7/19/10 I-800 Filed

8/24/10 Biometrics Appointment

8/25/10 I-800 Approval

9/3/10 Documents arrive in Peru

9/12/10 Airline tickets purchased

9/14/10 Article 5 Issued.
